7 ways to make your home vacation a success (and 7 miserable failures)

Streaming platforms are full of countless series and films just waiting to be watched. Lining up the 10 seasons of a series you haven’t seen yet will certainly help you pass the time. Add a few homemade snacks to the mix and your days will go by faster than you thought possible.

Everyone dreams of turning their home into a real place of relaxation. All you need is a bathtub. Turn your bathroom into a spa with a bubble bath, face masks or even a few rose petals. You can also add a little relaxing music to soften the atmosphere.

Tired of always making pasta or ordering pizza? There are thousands of other dishes out there waiting for you to discover them. Try Asian or Mexican cuisine, for example, for a change of pace. Many websites and specialized cookbooks are at your disposal.

Vacations at home don’t have to mean being alone. Organize themed evenings with your friends for dancing or board games. Sure, it’s not Ibiza, but the atmosphere is a lot friendlier. The only downside is that you’ll have plenty of chores to do the next day…

You don’t have to go camping to avoid eating off a table. A well-landscaped garden will make you feel like you’re out in nature. You can even pitch a tent and sleep at night if you like. If you don’t have a garden, you can always make do on the balcony with a few ornamental plants.

Do you have a big library full of books? There’s probably more than half of them you haven’t read yet. Now’s your chance to find out what’s hidden in those books you’ve always put aside, whether for lack of time or out of sheer laziness.

Taking cooking classes, learning a new language, playing the guitar or the violin will prove both enjoyable and useful. All you need to do is choose an activity you’re really passionate about.

If we can’t get away with our loved ones, we tend to check up on them all the time on social networks. It’s not a bad thing in itself, but you end up addicted to it. Then you’re stuck in your own little personal bubble, with days that ultimately serve no purpose.

Like social networking, TV is also highly addictive. We want to watch it all the time, even though there’s not always much to see. Even if you don’t go on vacation, there are others who are in the Maldives or Hawaii. And when you see what they’re doing there, you feel like moping and feeling sorry for yourself. That’s not what you should do at all. Try to make the most of what you’ve got.

The good thing about being on vacation is that you can do whatever you want. And frankly, it would be pretty stupid to continue with your daily routine. I’m not telling you to stop taking your shower, but not necessarily at 6.12 a.m. as usual. Varying your schedule a little will make your days more de-stressing.
