Charles’ coronation cost taxpayers $90M (US)

Anger quickly flared among the public after it was announced that King Charles’ coronation had cost taxpayers 72 million euros, or 90 million US dollars.

The coronation ceremony in May 2023 brought together dignitaries from all over the world.

The following day, an exceptional evening concert took place at Windsor Castle.

Among the guests were personalities such as French President Emmanuel Macron, the then British Prime Minister, and members of the Royal Family.

Celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry were also present.

While 20 million people followed the event on television, it was recently revealed that the total cost of the operation had reached an extravagant sum.

This amounted to 72 million euros (US$90 million).

According to The Guardian, security for the ceremony cost over £21 million (over US$26 million).

In addition, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport incurred additional expenses in excess of £50 million (nearly US$63 million).

This certainly didn’t go down well with the monarchy’s detractors.

Many accuse King Charles of acting without considering the huge costs it would impose on taxpayers.
