Trudeau promises strong border presence to avoid Trump’s tariffs

Justin Trudeau recently visited Mar-A-Lago for a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump.

During the meeting, he broached a crucial subject after Trump’s recent statements, threatening to impose 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico if steps were not taken to improve the situation at their border.

To avoid these tariffs under a future Trump presidency, Justin Trudeau promises a strong, visible presence at the border.

Donald Trump also commented on Truth Social about his dinner with the Canadian Prime Minister, saying Justin Trudeau was committed to working on border issues and fentanyl trafficking.

During the dinner, Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump discussed a wide range of topics.

These included the fentanyl and drug crisis, which has destroyed many lives due to illegal immigration, fair trade deals that don’t hurt American workers, and the US’s large trade deficit with Canada, according to Trump.

Following the meeting, Canadian officials confirmed that Canada would be stepping up its surveillance along the undefended shared border between Canada and the US.

Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who attended the meeting at Mar-a-Lago, said simple measures would go a long way to improving border conditions.

These measures include the redeployment of personnel, as well as the addition of drones and extra police helicopters.

The United States is Canada’s main trading partner, accounting for 75% of our exports of goods and services.

These 25% tariffs would certainly hurt the Canadian economy in a major way.
