Zelensky’s refusal to cede Crimea as well as Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories drew the ire of Donald Trump, who then decided to beg Vladimir Putin “to stop” after a Russian bombing raid on Kyiv.
The Trump administration

The peace plan proposed by the Trump administration quickly collapsed, as Ukraine firmly rejected it for its openly pro-Russian orientation, notably by entrenching Russian control over territories occupied for the past three years, recognizing the annexation of Crimea and prohibiting any future Ukrainian membership of NATO.
The Kremlin's interests

This initiative, presented by the United States, illustrates once again the problematic alignment of Trump’s foreign policy with the interests of the Kremlin, to the detriment of Ukraine.
Its territorial integrity

Zelensky was also very clear about Ukraine’s position on its territorial integrity: “Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea”.

Zelensky then added: “There’s nothing to talk about here”.
No card?

This statement visibly irritated Donald Trump, who quoted Zelensky in a post on Truth Social, accusing him of no longer having “no cards to play” and claiming that Crimea “was lost years ago”.
Withdraw

The Trump administration, through Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has also threatened to withdraw from the peace talks if Ukraine persists in rejecting his proposal.
"Vladimir, stop!"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed that Ukraine would only enter into peace negotiations with Russia once a complete ceasefire had been established. However, Vladimir Putin has seen fit to bomb Kyiv in the meantime, which has also caused Trump to go off the deep end and post again on Truth Social, hurling at the Russian president, “Vladimir, stop!”.
