War in Trumpland: Elon Musk calls Peter Navarro a ‘moron’ and ‘dumber than a sack of bricks’

At the time when the economic crisis was reaching its peak, largely due to the customs tariffs imposed globally by Donald Trump, internal fractures within his administration became visible, notably between one of his main advisors and billionaire Elon Musk.

Elon Musk publicly criticized Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade advisor, on the X platform, after he recalled Musk’s stance on tariffs.

Musk was indeed opposed to the generalized imposition of these tariffs, announced on April 2 and implemented on the 9th, before Trump decided to suspend them a few hours later. He had then expressed his preference for free trade, particularly with European countries.

In a television interview, Peter Navarro stated that Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is «not a car manufacturer», but a «car assembler, in many cases», to supply himself with parts from abroad.

He added that it was for this reason that Musk opposed the imposed tariffs.

In a series of virulent posts on X, Elon Musk attacked Trump’s advisor: «Navarro is truly a moron», before adding that the latter’s statements were, in his opinion, obviously false.

In another post, Musk claimed that Tesla manufactured a greater proportion of its vehicles in the United States than any other car maker. 

He then added that Peter Navarro was «dumber than a sack of bricks». Later, he apologized with sarcasm, specifying that his remark was not fair… to the bricks.

Remains to be seen in the coming days if the 90-day suspension of tariffs announced by Trump will also lead to a pause in the exchange of insults between his close advisors.
