At the time, German had published several articles about her \u201cintimidating\u201d and \u201chostile\u201d behaviors in the professional setting.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: A former Las Vegas-area Democratic official was sentenced to at least 28 years for killing a journalist who wrote articles critical of his conduct in office. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/L417PUfKpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/t.co\/L417PUfKpg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Associated Press (@AP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AP\/status\/1846596368367849594?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 16, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Jeff German, 69, was a respected reporter with almost 45 years on the job. He worked to cover the courts, crime and corruption in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly found dead outside his residence.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6131559\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.buminteractif.com\/2024\/10\/Robert-Telles-GettyImages-1425587109-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Surveillance video revealed an unusually dressed suspect, wearing a large hat, orange construction jacket, black pants and gray sneakers, carrying a duffel bag and driving a wine-red SUV.<\/p>\n<p>The SUV would have put Telles on the suspect list.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6131544\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.buminteractif.com\/2024\/10\/capture-court-tv-42342-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CaptureCourtTV<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During a search of Robert Telles\u2019s residence, police reportedly found an SUV as well as cut-out pieces of a straw hat and a gray sneaker, leading to his arrest.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6131565\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.buminteractif.com\/2024\/10\/Robert-Telles-GettyImages-1422022826-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to prosecutors, Telles killed German after losing the primary for a second term, blaming the journalist as the cause.<\/p>\n<p>In handing down his sentence, the judge stressed that this type of \u201cpolitical violence\u201d was \u201cunacceptable and dangerous\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6131568\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.buminteractif.com\/2024\/10\/Robert-Telles-GettyImages-1425595066-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The jury deliberated for three days before finding Robert Telles guilty.<\/p>\n<p>The judge chose to add eight years to the maximum sentence he could impose, due to the use of a deadly weapon in an intentional, deliberate and premeditated murder.<\/p>\n<p>Telles will be eligible for parole\u2026 at the age of 73.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robert Telles, a former Democratic elected official from Las Vegas, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder of an investigative reporter.
