- A third movie in the Jump Street franchise.
- Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are back.
- The title of the new movie.
- A crossover with MIB?
- Box-office success.
According to a report by Variety, the popular comedy franchise Jump Street could soon make a comeback with a third installment titled 24 Jump Street.
More than twelve years after the success of 21 Jump Street (2012) and 22 Jump Street (2014), discussions are reportedly underway to reunite the original stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube.
The new film would be directed by Rodney Rothman, who previously co-wrote 22 Jump Street and co-directed the Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The screenplay would be written by Rothman, Jonah Hill, and Meghan Malloy. Meanwhile, the directors of the first two films, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, would return as producers alongside Neal H. Moritz.

Why “24” instead of “23”?
The title 24 Jump Street fits perfectly with the meta and self-referential humor that made the first two films such a success. Since its inception, the franchise has enjoyed poking fun at Hollywood sequels, remakes, and studios that exploit popular franchises.
In “22 Jump Street,” several jokes already revolved around the fact that the characters found themselves repeating the exact same mission as in the first film, but with a bigger budget.
By choosing the title 24 Jump Street, the creators are continuing this tradition by deliberately skipping the number 23. This decision has no specific plot-related explanation; it mainly serves to fuel the joke that the project took so long to get off the ground that an entire movie could have been produced in the meantime. According to early reports, a promotional tagline perfectly sums up this idea.
This approach reflects the series' unique identity, which never hesitates to break genre conventions and poke fun at itself.

A MIB crossover off the table?
A third Jump Street movie has been stuck in limbo for nearly a decade.
Following the success of 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, Sony spent a long time searching for the right way to continue the franchise without simply repeating the same formula. At one point, the most ambitious idea was to turn the third installment into an unlikely crossover with Men in Black, bringing together the undercover cops from Jump Street and the agents tasked with monitoring aliens.
The project, often referred to as MIB 23, never really took off, however.
Although this new film could theoretically revive that abandoned concept, it seems unlikely. The Men in Black franchise no longer has the same commercial clout it did at its peak, especially after the mixed reception of its latest installments.
In contrast, Jump Street retains a fresher image, thanks to its meta humor and the popularity of the Channing Tatum–Jonah Hill duo.

A Box-Office Success
The first two films in the Jump Street franchise were major global box-office hits, which explains why Sony wants to revive the series with a third installment.
Released in 2012, 21 Jump Street far exceeded expectations by grossing approximately $201 million worldwide, despite having been produced on an estimated budget of $42 million. The film also received very positive reviews for its blend of action and humor.
Two years later, 22 Jump Street did even better. The sequel, once again starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, grossed nearly $331 million at the global box office. This result represents an increase of more than 60% over the first film and makes it the franchise's biggest hit.
Together, the two films have generated more than 530 million US dollars in global box office revenue, confirming the series' enduring popularity.
