Shania Twain opened up about a difficult issue related to her negative body image from a few years ago. The 60-year-old singer addressed this significant period during an interview with The Times, speaking very candidly about a time when accepting her body had become extremely difficult.
She explains that around 2019, she went through a time when looking in the mirror had become almost impossible: “I stopped looking in the mirror. I hated my body.”
She adds that she felt deep distress over the physical changes she was seeing: “I'd think to myself: Oh, I can't stand this body that's changing. But it was so unhealthy. Who can't look at themselves in the mirror?”
The singer also describes a gradual loss of control over her body and well-being: “Suddenly, I started to gain weight, and I clearly no longer had control. I couldn't just lose two and a half kilos,” she recalls.
She also describes difficult behaviors linked to that period: “I was doing very unhealthy things. And I was pushing my body harder than I was nourishing it just to keep going.”
Today, these revelations shed light on a trying period in her life, marked by a significant internal struggle with her image and well-being—a subject the star has rarely addressed with such transparency.

Menopause: A Relief
Shania Twain explains that she now approaches this period of her life with much more perspective and serenity. After going through years marked by self-doubt and a difficult relationship with her body image, she says she has gradually regained a sense of acceptance and kindness toward herself. This journey hasn't been easy, but it has allowed her to completely change her perception of the mirror and her reflection.
“Now I say to myself: Come on, bring me mirrors, I'll look at myself all day long,” she said.
She notes that menopause played a major role in her self-perception and is grateful for this transformation.
“Menopause has done me a lot of good, because I've learned that there are things we can't control,” said Shania Twain.
Her story serves as a reminder that many people may go through periods of doubt, negative thoughts, and struggles with their body image at some point in their lives. These experiences, though often unspoken, are part of human realities that are more common than we realize.
Shania Twain also demonstrates that even the biggest stars, despite the spotlight and fame, are not immune to these moments of vulnerability.
